International Antarctic Institute
Under the aegis of the University of Tasmania, a meeting was held in Hobart on 6-7 November, 2004, to discuss the possibility of setting up an International Antarctic Institute. The meeting was attended on behalf of SCAR by Dr Edith Fanta of Brazil.
On 8 July 2006 the International Antarctic Institute came into being, and the Institiute will begin offering courses of study in 2007. The secretariat currently resides at the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Tasmania.
