SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information
The Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information is concerned with the mapping of Antarctica in its widest sense. This includes the geodetic configuration of Antarctica as well as topographic and thematic mapping and the co-ordination of geographic information. The Group has compiled a compendium of all the place-names used in Antarctica in all languages. The Working Group has also supported a project to provide an accurate and up-to-date digital database for a map of Antarctica at a scale of 1:250,000. This includes data on the coastline, rock outcrops, altimetry and bathymetry from all available sources.
The first edition of the database was published on a CD-ROM. A second version is now available on the World Wide Web at http://www.nerc-bas.ac.uk/public/magic/add_home.html
