Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP)
COMNAP is an international organisation to encourage collaboration between Antarctic operating agencies worldwide. COMNAP aims to enhance the conduct of scientific research, operational efficiency, safety and environmental stewardship in Antarctica, and the effectiveness of national Antarctic programs.
COMNAP first met in 1989, and meets annually in the host countries of member agencies. Every second year these meetings coincide with the biennial SCAR meetings; with the new structure of SCAR the COMNAP meeting is associated with the SCAR Open Science Conference. In intervening years the SCAR Executive Committee hold its meetings in parallel with the COMNAP meeting. On both occasions the two Executive bodies meet to exchange views and promote the cooperation between operating agencies and scientists that is vital for the success of scientific endeavours in the Antarctic region.
