SCAR nominated to participate on new International Polar Year Joint Committee for planning and coordination of the International Polar Year
The International Council for Science (ICSU) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), have formed a Joint Committee for planning and coordinating the activities of the International Polar Year (see http://www.ipy.org/international/committee.html ).
Members include:
- Ian Allison (Australia (Co-chair),
- Michel Beland (Canada) (Co-chair),
- Edith Fanta (Brazil),
- Yoshiyuki Fujii (Japan),
- Robin Bell (USA),
- Vladimir Kotlyakov (Russia),
- Igor Krupnik (USA),
- Eberhard Fahrbach (Germany),
- Jeronimo Lopez-Martinez (Spain),
- Qin Dahe (China),
- Chris Rapley (UK),
- Tillman Mohr (Germany),
and ex officio representatives from
- SCAR (Colin Summerhayes),
- IASC (Odd Rogne), IOC (Keith Alverson),
- WMO (Ed Sarukhanian),
- ICSU (Leah Goldfarb).
The first meeting of the Committee will take place in Paris during the week of March 7, 2005.
