AGCS has incorporated five of SCAR past research projects:
- Modelling and Observational Studies of Antarctic Katabatics (MOSAK)
- Antarctic Tropospheric Aerosols and their Role in Climate (ATAC)
- Reference Antarctic Data for Environmental Research (READER)
- Antarctic Sea Ice Processes and Climate (ASPeCT)
- International Trans-Antarctic Scientific Expedition (ITASE)

AGCS Data Sources: READER
The SCAR REference Antarctic Data for Environmental Research (READER) initiative aims to create high quality data sets of key variables for investigation of climate variability and change. There are currently three components:
- MET-READER - surface and upper air mean climate data
- OCEAN-READER - temperature, salinity and ocean current data from the Southern Ocean
- ICE-READER - basic data from Antarctic ice cores (in preparation)
