SCAR logo opportunities blueReproducible, open workflows are a cornerstone of Antarctic science, and the GitHub platform is one of the most popular open-source software development frameworks. The EG-ABI group on behalf of SCAR has established a SCAR organization account on GitHub (see https://github.com/SCAR). This space is intended for development and promotion of SCAR software and other informatics products.

The EG-ABI and EG-BAMM groups have been making use of this GitHub space, and now we would like to begin making it more widely accessible across SCAR groups. If your group develops open-source code that you would like to see hosted in this space, please feel free to get in touch (see guidelines here).

This GitHub space is intended for projects that have a clear SCAR connection. Projects should be of sufficient maturity that their value and usage is clear to the SCAR community. Projects need not be final or polished, but equally should not be largely-empty placeholders for future development. For example, a software package should provide sufficient working functionality that a user can see how it might be used within their research, even if that functionality is subject to ongoing development and change. The organisation guidelines page gives a little more detail on how we have been using the space to date.

The SCAR organization account can be found here: https://github.com/SCAR
