SCAR General News

Visiting Scholars news buttonThe deadline for Visiting Scholar applications has been extended to Wednesday 25 November, to help mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The extended scheme allows greater flexibility for applicants with the proposed dates for travel, meaning the visit can be delayed until the recipient can undertake the travel. Alternatively, visits can be virtual so they could still take place under restrictions if necessary. We would also emphasise that the application process is not onerous with only a one-page proposal to prepare and your CV to add.

The Visiting Scholar Scheme provides individual awards of up to USD $5000. The number of awards given by SCAR will depend on the quality of the applications and the total budget available. The amount of each individual award will take into account local factors.

The scheme is for any scientists and academics (more than five years after completing their PhD) whose research contributes to SCAR's objectives, as embodied in the Science GroupsScientific Research Programmes and Programme Planning Groups. The host institute must be in or operated by one of the SCAR Member countries and must be a country different from that of (i) the candidate's current position and (ii) the candidate's origin (although the latter may be waived at the discretion of the Selection Committee). Visiting Scholarships are awarded purely by competitive selection.

Full details of the scheme and how to apply are given on our Visiting Scholar page.
