Antarctic Climate Change in the 21st Century (AntClim21)

AntClim21 would like to announce that they will be offering grants to support travel for early-career researchers (ECRs) planning to attend SCAR2020. These will be a maximum of $2,000 USD to help with travel and registration costs and are specifically for ECRs. An ECR is defined broadly as those researchers who have accumulated up to 10 years of research since completing their PhD (taking into account periods of part-time research or career breaks). We will also consider applications from PhD students nearing the end of the their studentships with high quality research results to present.

To apply please send an email to Tom Bracegirdle (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) with the following information:

  • A description and/or evidence of your ECR status.
  • Estimated required travel and registration support.
  • A note of other sources of funding that will be supporting your travel to SCAR2020.
  • Your submitted abstract as evidence that you will present on topics relevant to AntClim21, for example relating to Antarctic and/or Southern Ocean climate change with a focus on 21st century climate projections, model evaluation or using paleo-observations and modelling to help improve projections.

Applications will be accepted up the next working day after the OSC abstract deadline (OSC deadline 28 February, next working day 2 March). Applications will then be reviewed by the AntClim21 Steering Committee and awards made conditional on abstract acceptance. The amount awarded to successful applicants will depend on a number of factors including: science quality; alignment with the aims of AntClim21; travel requirements; and the number of applicants.

We look forward to receiving your applications.

--- Tom Bracegirdle, on behalf of the AntClim21 Steering Committee
