HASSEG cool composers webDr Carolyn Philpott is a HASSEG member currently working on the ways composers have represented the Antarctic landscape and environment in their music. Based at the University of Tasmania, she has also toured the USA giving lectures on the topics of Antarctic music. In 2015, Dr Philpott presented her work on Heroic Era sledging songs at the SCAR Humanities and Social Sciences workshop in Colorado, where it was greeted with an enthusiastic response. Her work has recently been profiled by her home university:

The frozen continent’s allure was particularly potent in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, when intrepid travellers would return with stories of its beauty and mystery, which in turn inspired works of art, literature and music.
