Melis graduated from Bilkent University with a bachelor’s degree in Law. She holds two master’s degrees from Hacettepe University, one of which is in Information Technology Law and the second one is in Public Law. Within the scope of her studies in Public Law, she particularly focused on public international law and polar law and in her master’s thesis, she examined the legal status of Antarctica.

Melis is now studying for a PhD in Public Law at Hacettepe University. Since 2019, Yuksel has been working as a research assistant in the field of Public International Law at Atılım University located in the capital city of Türkiye, Ankara. Her research interests are public international law, especially polar law and law of the sea.
