Uruguayan Antarctic Institute and Uruguayan Antarctic Association “Antarkos” Center of Studies

Waldemar Fontes has been working in Antarctic-related fields since 1999. He was the Commander of the Uruguayan Scientific Base Artigas in the winters of 2000, 2007 and also 2009, and was a Member of the Board of the Uruguayan Antarctic Institute (UAI) from 2010 to 2014. Waldemar was the Chief of the Public Information Department at the UAI; a Member of the Education and Outreach Team of the Uruguayan Antarctic Association “Antarkos” since 2004; Director of the Training Center of the UAI since 2018; a Member of the Latin-American Antarctic History Group since 2011, and a Member of the APECS Uruguayan Committee since 2019. He has been writing about Antarctica since 2000, on topics such as children's stories, poetry, chronicles and so on.
